HL Deb 19 November 1974 vol 354 cc1013-4WA
THE EARL OF SELKIRK

asked Her Majesty's Government:

  1. (i) to give the terms of the Social Contract;
  2. (ii) to say by whom it was signed and approved.

LORD HUGHES

The basis of the Social Contract was set out in the TUC-Labour Party Liaison Committee document onEconomic Policy and the Cost of Living, which was issued in February, 1973, with the approval of the TUC General Council and the National Executive Committee and Parliamentary Committee of the Labour Party. I would draw the noble Earl's attention to page 5 of the Labour Party's Manifesto, October, 1974.
