HC Deb 19 November 1974 vol 881 c401W
Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what future plans exist to build purpose-built juvenile courts.

Mr. Alexander W. Lyon

Purpose-built accommodation for juvenile courts is almost without exception included in plans for magistrates' courts.

The current programme for new magistrates' courts is affected by present financial constraints, but it is hoped that some new starts will be made next year.

Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what proportion of buildings used as juvenile courts have been purpose-built.

Mr. Alexander W. Lyon

I regret that this information is not readily available and could not be obtained without disproportionate cost. A substantial number of purpose-designed magistrates' courts, including accommodation for juvenile court sittings, have been built in recent years.
