HC Deb 19 November 1974 vol 881 c377W
Mr. Weetch

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if, in view of the increasing traffic problem caused by heavy container vehicles near Ipswich, he will expedite work on the Ipswich bypass; and if he will make a statement on current progress on the work.

Mr. Carmichael

The results of the public consultation on the choice of alternative routes, which took place in the summer, are at present being analysed and my right hon. Friend expects to be in a position to announce the preferred route early next year. Subject to the availability of funds at the time, it is hoped that work on the bypass might start in about six years.
