HC Deb 18 November 1974 vol 881 c340W
Mr. Anderson

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many local authorities in Wales have satisfied their public sector housing needs; and what percentage of all public sector housing needs in Wales has been met.

Mr. John Morris

None. All authorities in Wales are faced with an urgent need to build more houses; but it is not possible to make a meaningful percentage estimate of precise needs.

Mr. Anderson

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what progress has been made by Welsh local authorities on estimating and surveying housing needs for the next five years; and if it is his intention to publish the figures when available.

Mr. John Morris

My hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State has, during his visits to all housing authorities in Wales, requested each authority urgently to assess its housing need. I have arranged for a second housing conference to take place in North Wales in early December and thereafter I shall be asking authorities to quantify their plans for a regular programme of house building. I shall certainly consider whether to publish the figures when they become available.
