asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many times in the past 12 months cars have been provided from the Government Car Service for the use of grade I, grade II, grade III and grade IV officials of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in order that they can carry out their diplomatic duties in the London area.

It has only been possible to carry out a six-month review in the time available.

The provision of cars by the Government Car Service for officials of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, to enable them to carry out their diplomatic duties in the London area, was as follows for the period 1st January to 30th June 1974:

  • Grade I—nil.
  • Grade II–2 occasions.
  • Grade III–4 occasions.
  • Grade IV—8 occasions.
