HC Deb 18 November 1974 vol 881 c298W
40. Mr. Adley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received about the hardship and difficulties being encountered by the operators of small hotels and boarding-houses seeking to implement the regulations imposed on them under the Fire Precautions Act; and if Government assistance will be made available to prevent bankruptcies and unemployment solely attributable to the cost of implementing the Fire Precautions Act.

Dr. Summerskill

The few representations we have received recently do not support the view that small hotels and boarding houses are being closed down solely because of the effects of the Fire Precautions Act 1971. My right hon. Friend has, however, undertaken to consider whether any further financial help might be given in addition to the provision already made for loans and tax relief.
