asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many foreign military personnel are currently being treated in Army hospitals; from what countries they come; and what charges are being made for their treatment.

The number of foreign Service men currently occupying beds in Service hospitals and medical rehabilitation units in this country is 50. They come from Chile, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Libya and the United States of America. There are also five Commonwealth Service men at present in these hospitals. The current daily charges for non-entitled patients admitted to Service hospitals are £36.40 for an officer and £32.70 for a soldier. The corresponding charges at rehabilitation units are £25.20 and £17.00.
