HC Deb 14 November 1974 vol 881 cc241-2W
Mr. David Steel

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will now set up a consultative council for public transport in Scotland.

Mr. William Ross

For the present it is for the regional and islands councils to discharge the duty imposed on them by Section 151 of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973 to develop, in consultation with the transport operators and co-ordinated as necessary by my Department, policies which will promote the provision of a co-ordinated and efficient system of public transport, to meet the needs of their areas.
