HC Deb 14 November 1974 vol 881 c242W
Mr. David Steel

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) whether he has received any representations from the Scottish livestock industry about the provision of slaughtering facilities in Scotland;

(2) whether he is satisfied that adequate slaughterhouse capacity exists to meet the present and future demands of the Scottish livestock industry.

Mr. William Ross

I have received no specific representations, though the Government recognise that slaughterhouses in many areas are operating at full capacity to deal with the current high level of slaughterings. I believe that existing facilities and those presently planned or under construction will provide sufficient capacity of a high standard to meet our foreseeable needs.
