HC Deb 14 November 1974 vol 881 c216W
Mr. Tierney

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what was the rate of growth in production in the motor car industry during the last year for which records are available and what growth rate he anticipates during the following 12 months.

Mr. Meacher

Production of complete motor cars decreased by 8 per cent. between 1972 and 1973 and, on the basis of figures up to September 1974, is expected to fall a further 10 per cent. this year. These figures do not take into account separate production of car parts and accessories which cannot be distinguished from those of commercial vehicles. Total output of parts and accessories increased by 9 per cent. in 1973 and is expected to fall by a similar percentage in 1974.
