HC Deb 14 November 1974 vol 881 c220W
Q14. Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Prime Minister if he will define the responsibilities of the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and of the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection, respectively, in regard to food prices, subsidies, and supplies.

The Prime Minister

My right hon. Friend the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food is responsible for food supplies and is the sponsoring Minister for the food trades and industries. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection is responsible for matters relating to prices in the shops. She also has policy responsibility for food subsidies under the Prices Act 1974, but the Minister acts as her agent in administering food subsidy schemes.
