HC Deb 12 November 1974 vol 881 c86W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations he has received from the Irish Government concerning the United Kingdom policy towards beef imported from the Irish Republic.

Mr. Bishop

Representations have been made by the Republic of Ireland in the past week about the disruption of normal trade in beef caused by farmers' demonstrations at certain United Kingdom ports. My right hon. Friend was able to discuss this with the Irish Minister of Agriculture at the end of last week.

Mr. Wigley

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will take steps to implement during the current month a 60-day waiting period for beef imported from the Irish Republic.

Mr. Bishop

We have undertaken to give full consideration to the representations which have been made on this matter, and we are doing so.
