HC Deb 11 November 1974 vol 881 c2W
23. Mrs. Joyce Butler

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if she will consider the need for a committee to advise her on matters relating to the safety of electrical equipment for use in the home; and if she will make a statement.

Mr. Alan Williams

I have decided to set up an Advisory Committee on the Safety of Household Electrical Equipment to advise me on matters in this field for which I am responsible, with particular reference to the administrative guidance to be issued by my Department from time to time concerning the proposed Electrical Appliances (Safety) Regulations which I hope to lay before the House shortly. The committee, on which consumer, trade and other interests will be represented, will be appointed as soon as possible.
