HC Deb 11 November 1974 vol 881 c4W
Mr. Ford

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what appeal machinery exists where an organisation is dissatisfied with his refusal to grant a change of name through the Companies Registration Office.

Mr. Shore

It is not the practice to refuse to allow a change of name as such. My Department does, however, refuse under the powers given by Section 17 and 18 of the Companies Act 1948 the adoption of a specific name which is considered undesirable. Anyone dissatisfied with a decision may ask for the case to be reconsidered. But there is no appeal provision under the Act against my decision.
