HC Deb 07 November 1974 vol 880 cc208-9W
Mr. Tebbit

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will list the major school building programmes currently approved for financing by his Department and any which he proposes to postpone, in view of the current economic situation.

Mr. Armstrong

There has been no change in the major school building programme for basic need projects to start during 1974–75 since my right hon. Friend announced in a Written Answer on 16th July that it would total £111 million. In addition, my Department is today writing to local education authorities to inform them which major primary improvement projects have been included in the 1974–75 starts programme; the total value of these projects is £20 million. It has yet to be decided what resources can be made available for school building in subsequent years. The question of postponement therefore does not arise.
