HC Deb 07 November 1974 vol 880 c187W
19. Mr. Beith

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he is satisfied that the present level of beef imports from the Republic of Ireland is not detrimental to the maintenance of home production; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Bishop

Present imports of carcase beef and fat cattle from the Irish Republic are in line with levels of traditional trade. They represent a very small proportion of total United Kingdom consumption and should not have a significant effect on market price levels, particularly since our total imports this year are much lower than usual.
