§ Mr. Moateasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why he has announced the withdrawal of the 10p national savings stamp.
§ Mr. DellThe Government's decision represents acceptance of the recommendation of the Page Committee to review national savings that the national savings stamp should be abolished. The Government believe that the stamp is a bad bargain for both savers and the Government, and have therefore announced that sales will be discontinued in about 2 years' time. The precise timing will however, be discussed further with the leaders of the voluntary national savings movement.
