HC Deb 04 November 1974 vol 880 c75W
Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether the agreement reached by Sir Alec Douglas-Home and Mr. Smith on constitutional developments in Rhodesia remains in force; and, if not, which parts of the agreement no longer apply.

Miss Joan Lestor

The agreement reached between Sir Alec Douglas-Home and Mr. Smith in 1971 was conditional upon the British Government being satisfied that the settlement proposals it contained were acceptable to the people of Rhodesia as a whole. The Pearce Commission found that this condition was not satisfied. That agreement therefore did not come into effect.
