§ Mr. Hattonasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will take steps to remove the anomalies created for local authorities in respect of students and rent rebates, particularly with respect to the requirement of dividing the grant by the number of study weeks, which vary according to the local authority making the grant and the university term.
§ Mr. FreesonThe position of students under the rent rebate and rent allowance schemes is currently under review by the Advisory Committee on Rent Rebates and Rent Allowances. The review will cover the method by which local authorities determine, as part of their assessment of a rebate or allowance, the period to which a student's income, including grant income, relates. Any evidence of anomalies or difficulties will be welcomed by the committee.
