HC Deb 24 May 1974 vol 874 cc352-3W
Mr. Sydney Irving

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what progress has been made in landscaping the Dartford diversion with a view to reducing the nuisance from traffic noise to the residents of Wilmington.

Mr. Carmichael

A landscaping schema has been completed and has failed; trees and shrubs are now being replaced. Even when fully grown, however, the scheme will have only a small effect on noise levels.

Mr. Sydney Irving

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many claims he has received from residents in Wilmington under the Land Compensation Act for grants for sound insulation as a protection from traffic noise from the Dartford diversion; and how many of these he has authorised.

Mr. Carmichael

Five claims for sound insulation are under consideration and work will be authorised in appropriate cases when our investigations are completed. An additional 53 claims have been received under Part I of the Act for depreciation.
