asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he expects to make a decision on Surrey County Council's compulsory purchase order on the Basingstoke Canal, an inquiry on which was held in October 1973.

There are still a number of legal points to be resolved but a decision on the order will be made as soon as possible.
