HC Deb 23 May 1974 vol 874 cc258-9W
Mr. Sydney Irving

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what has been the result of his investigation into the value of noise and safety barriers in reducing the nuisance from traffic noise on the Dartford diversion.

Mr. Carmichael

Our investigations are not yet completed. I will write to my right hon. Friend when the results are available.

Mr. Sydney Irving

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what conclusions he has come to in respect of tests carried out into tyre noise arising from different road textures, with particular reference to the nuisance caused to residents of Wilmington from traffic noise on the Dartford diversion.

Mr. Carmichael

Research on the A2 has established that there is no significant difference in noise levels from various textured surfaces apart from uniform grooving. The uniform grooving in the vicinity of Wilmington which increased noise levels has been eliminated.
