Mr. Loveridge

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) how many of all male workers receive less than the figure of average weekly earnings for all male workers, and how many receive more, calculated to the most recent convenient date;

(2) how many of all female workers receive less than the figure of average weekly earnings for all female workers; and how many receive more, calculated to the most recent convenient date.

The following estimates, based on New Earnings Survey data, relate to April 1973 and to full-time males aged 21 and over and full-time females aged 18 and over in Great Britain whose pay for the survey reference period was not affected by absence. Those who pay was affected by absence, part-time workers and juveniles are generally excluded when distributions of employees according to their weekly earnings are published.
