Mr. Bishop

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if, in his estimate of the cost of road accidents in 1973 including loss of life, medical treatment, loss of output, administrative costs, damage to property, etc.; and how many persons were killed, and injured seriously, and otherwise.

Mr. Mulley

The estimated cost of road accidents for 1973 is about £615 million. The total number of casualties was 353,700, of which 7,410 were fatal, 89,400 seriously injured and 256,900 slightly injured.
