Mr. Wakeham

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the average delay in obtaining the result of an appeal to his Department against refusal of planning permission by a local authority; and how this compares with the delay at the same time last year and in 1971 and 1972.

Below are figures showing the average time in weeks taken between the receipt of a planning appeal and the decision on it for appeals decided in the month of April in the years 1971 to 1974:

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what has been the reduction in rate support grant payable to the Sedgemoor District Council arising from his decision to substitute a flat rate element for the previously proposed variable element; and what was the reduction in domestic rate element expressed as pence in the pound;

(2)what has been the reduction in rate support grant payable to the West Somerset District Council arising from his decision to substitute a flat rate element for previously proposed variable element; and what was the reduction in domestic rate element expressed as pence in the pound.
