§ Mr. Wattasked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if, in the interests of consumers, she will ensure that in her public statements she does not 3W damage the prospects of small shopkeepers by confining her references to supermarkets; and, in particular, if she will point out those areas where prices in small shops may be lower than in supermarkets.
§ Mr. MaclennanWe recognise fully the valuable service provided by small shopkeepers and have made this clear whenever appropriate. Our plans to increase information about prices and price ranges at the local level will help publicise lower prices in both supermarkets and the small shops.
