HC Deb 20 May 1974 vol 874 cc2-3W
Mr. Watt

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if, in the interests of consumers, she will ensure that in her public statements she does not damage the prospects of small shopkeepers by confining her references to supermarkets; and, in particular, if she will point out those areas where prices in small shops may be lower than in supermarkets.

Mr. Maclennan

We recognise fully the valuable service provided by small shopkeepers and have made this clear whenever appropriate. Our plans to increase information about prices and price ranges at the local level will help publicise lower prices in both supermarkets and the small shops.
