HC Deb 03 May 1974 vol 872 cc319-20W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will introduce regulations to require the fitting of laminated windscreens in cars manufactured in, and imported into, Great Britain, in view of the medical evidence of the high eye injury rate of other types.

Mr. Mulley

The relative superiority of HPR laminated glass over the more usual toughened glass in reducing facial injuries to car occupants has not been clearly established. In view of the much higher cost of laminated windscreens, mandatory fitting would not be justified at present.
