HC Deb 03 May 1974 vol 872 cc340-1W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales (1) what are the estimated figures of the number of tourists that visited Wales during each of the months of April, May, June, July, August and September 1973; and whether it is anticipated that this number will increase or decrease in 1974;

(2) what is the estimate of the number of cars that carried tourists into Wales for each month from April to September 1973, inclusive; and what is the estimated daily rate for Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday for 1973.

Mr. John Morris

I regret that the information requested is not yet available. I understand from the Wales Tourist Board that 1973 tourist estimates are expected to be ready for publication in May.

Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what proportion of the tourists visiting Wales in 1973 is estimated to have travelled by car.

Mr. John Morris

This information is not yet available. I understand that in 1972 an estimated 82 per cent. of people visiting Wales on holiday from other parts of Great Britain travelled in their own or hired cars. The corresponding estimate for 1973 is expected to be available in May, but is not expected to show marked change from 1972.
