HC Deb 03 May 1974 vol 872 c289W
Mr. Mather

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she is prepared to implement the increased retirement lump sum benefits for NHS staff which was agreed and published in 1972; and, if so, what is the date at which such increased lump sum benefits will be paid, bearing in mind that increased contributions from NHS staff were levied in 1972.

Dr. Owen

Before these payments can be made the National Health Service (Superannuation) Regulations have to be amended. Under the Superannuation Act 1972 my right hon. Friend is required first to consult representatives of the persons likely to be affected. Draft amending regulations covering this and other points were submitted to the Joint Superannuation Consultative Committee on 22nd February and she is awaiting its comments. Payment of these increases in respect of service from 25th March 1972 will commence immediately the amending regulations come into operation.
