HC Deb 03 May 1974 vol 872 cc267-8W
46. Mr. Carter

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what impact she expects food subsidies to have on food prices during the next 12 months.

Mr. Maclennan

It is estimated that the saving on the Index of Retail Food Prices resulting from the subsidies already announced on milk, butter and bread will be about 3½ per cent. I cannot at this stage anticipate the savings that may result from new subsidy schemes for other basic foods.
