HC Deb 03 May 1974 vol 872 c330W
Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he is satisfied that adequate resources are being made available to the community relations officers of the RUC and the Army.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

The RUC budget for community relations work in 1974–75 is £20,000. Every member of the force is aware of his responsibilities for fostering good community relations, and plans are being prepared by the Chief Constable for the officers engaged full-time on community relations work to make full use of this substantially increased budget. I understand that the Army's budget for 1974–75 for community relations work is also £20,000. I am satisfied that proper allocations are being made to community relations, bearing in mind the other demands on resources.
