HC Deb 02 May 1974 vol 872 cc522-3W
Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what training is given to Regular Army officers to ensure they have sufficient knowledge of the Emergency Provisions Act.

Mr. William Rodgers

All officers posted to Northern Ireland undergo a period of six to 10 weeks' special training before going there. This includes instruction on the Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Act 1973 and practical exercises involving likely situations which involve the application of the Act. They are also issued with anaide memoire on those aspects of the Act relating to arrests.
