Mr. Kenneth Clarke

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will seek to obtain and list the loans made to British industry by the European Investment Bank in the year 1973.

Mr. Mackenzie

The following loans for United Kingdom industrial projects were announced by the European Investment Bank in 1973:

  1. (1) A loan of £3.5 million to the Industrial and Commercial Finance Corporation Ltd. towards the cost of financing small and medium-scale projects in the development areas of the United Kingdom.
  2. (2) A loan of £14.7 million to the British Steel Corporation towards the cost of new burden preparation facilities at Teesside.
  3. (3) A loan of £14.7 million to the British Steel Corporation towards the cost of a third blast furnace and other supporting plant at Llanwern, South Wales.
