HC Deb 27 March 1974 vol 871 c142W
Miss Quennell

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what is now the total pension of a widow, aged 32 years, of a civil servant with nine years' service receiving pensionable pay of £3,000 per annum, whose death in April 1970 was attributable; and by how much her pension has been increased since it was awarded.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

Assuming Scale II of the Civil Service Injury Warrants 1952 and 1965 applied, the widow of an established civil servant with no children killed on duty in April 1970 would have received a pension of £500. Since the widow had no children that pension would not hitherto have been increased while she was under age 40. As a result of the removal of the age bar under Section 3(3) of the Pensions (Increase) Act 1974, however, it would be increased by more than one-third on 1st December 1974.
