Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what is the number of public companies engaged in ship repairing in the United Kingdom, and what is their market capitalisation.

Mr. Meacher

The Stock Exchange Fact Book, about to be published, gives the market values of the ordinary shares of the nine quoted companies in the shipbuilding and ship repairing industry on 31st December 1973 at £32 million. Ship repairing is not separately distinguished.

Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what is the number of public companies primarily engaged in providing ancillary plant and equipment to shipbuilding and ship repairing firms in the United Kingdom; and what is their market capitalisation.
