§ Mrs. Winifred Ewingasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what proportion of children in (a) Scotland and (b) Moray and Nairn enjoy nursery school education; and what plans he has to provide more nursery school places in (a) Scotland and (b) Moray and Nairn.
§ Mr. William RossIn January 1973, 9.4 per cent. of the total 3- and 4-year old child population in Scotland attended education authority nursery schools or classes. I cannot give the corresponding percentage for Moray and Nairn since population figures by individual age groups are only available on an all-Scotland basis. Plans submitted by education authorities for schemes to be started in the two years from October 1974 make provision for around 17,000 extra places in nursery schools and classes. In Moray and Nairn the authority plans to provide 200 additional places, allowing for the attendance of 360 children on a part-time basis.
