HC Deb 27 March 1974 vol 871 c140W
Mr. Biffen

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what assurances have been sought and given concerning the export to. Great Britain of carcase meat and meat products from areas of France now infected by foot and mouth disease.

Mr. Moyle

There are standing licence conditions governing the import of meat from France. In addition we sought and have been given an assurance that no animal originating from the four affected departments of France and two adjacent ones would be slaughtered for the production of meat for export to Great Britain. The Director of the French Veterinary Services has also given instructions that no meat originating from these six departments should be given the EEC inspection mark. This will prevent such meat and any meat products which might present a risk from leaving France for another member State.
