HC Deb 26 March 1974 vol 871 c71W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many children are born each year with heart disorders; how many children with congenital heart disorders are waiting for cardiac catheterisation; and how many are awaiting major heart surgery.

Dr. Owen

About six children per 1,000 live births are born with heart disorders. Roughly one third of these will require surgery. I regret that information concerning waiting lists for specific procedures is not available and could not be obtained without a special survey of all hospital authorities.
