HC Deb 25 March 1974 vol 871 c10W
Mr. Stephen Ross

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in view of the present housing situation and the desire of police officers to acquire their own homes, he will consider advising chief constables to relax the existing practice whereby police officers are required to move their place of abode at frequent intervals.

Dr. Summerskill

The general practice of chief officers of police is to avoid frequent movements. Transfers requiring removal of an officer's home are limited to cases where this is needed on operational grounds or is in the interest of the career or the welfare of the officer concerned.
