HC Deb 25 March 1974 vol 871 cc16-7W
Mr. Marten

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will introduce legislation banning importation of eggs and poultry meat from those countries which freely allow the use of antibiotics in poultry feed; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Buchan

No. The use of antibiotics in poultry feed for laying birds is controlled by EEC legislation. Imports of poultry meat and of eggs from countries which do not control the use of antibiotics arc not significant. In these circumstances we do not consider that a ban would be justified.
