asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will abolish the present 50 mph speed limit on motorways and revert to the former 70 mph limit on these roads.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how long he proposes that the speed limit of 50 mph be continued.

Mr. Mulley

Until the fuel situation permits the restoration of the 70 mph limit.
