§ 24 Sir F. Bennettasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will give 58W a comparison of the cost of concessionary benefits in the coal mining industry with the average for all other manufacturing industry.
§ Mr. BoothIn October 1973, the latest date for which we have information, the average weekly value of allowances in kind in coalmining was £2.64. Comparable figures are not readily available for manufacturing industries. However, the 1968 survey of labour costs showed that payments in kind amounted to 0.07 per cent. of the total labour costs for operatives. Applying this percentage to the average weekly earnings of £41.52 in October 1973 gives a figure of about 3p per week.
