HC Deb 19 March 1974 vol 870 c58W
25 Mr. Le Marchant

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what was the total cost of the settlement of the miners' recent wage claim, including all arrangements made for the provision of fringe benefits; and if he will itemise these costs.

Mr. Booth

The cost of the settlement between the National Coal Board and the National Union of Mineworkers for the mineworkers' group, calculated in accordance with paragraph 123 of the pay code, is £108.5 million. This includes the cost of all items in the agreement except those relating to the cost of living safeguard and retirement and death in service benefits. I do not have an itemised breakdown of costs.
