HC Deb 18 March 1974 vol 870 c21W
Mr. James Johnson

asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether he will make a statement regarding the loss of the Hull trawler "Gaul" which has been missing with the total loss of 36 men since Friday 8th February, and his intentions regarding a public inquiry into this disaster.

Mr. Shore

A statutory preliminary inquiry was ordered on 15th February, as soon as the major search had been abandoned. I expect to have the report by the middle of next month, when I shall consider what further action to take.

I am sure that the House would wish to join me in taking this opportunity to express deep sympathy with the relatives and friends of those who were lost in this tragic occurrence.
