§ Mr. Trotterasked the Secretary of State for the Environment, during the most recent month for which the information is available, what was the number of driving licences issued by the central issue 531W office which were delayed for more than two weeks, three weeks, four weeks and five weeks for each of the following reasons: (a) mistakes of applicants, (b) information sent to the centre for its record being inaccurate, incomplete or late, and (c) processing errors.
§ Mr. CarmichaelOf the 857,000 licences issued during May, 3 per cent. took between two and five weeks to clear and 0.5 per cent. more than five weeks. Samples indicate that about a quarter of the applications which could not be cleared within two weeks were made incorrectly, and that about half ran into difficulty because information sent to the centre for its records was inaccurate or incomplete.
