HC Deb 26 June 1974 vol 875 c479W
Mr. Redmond

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what discussions he has had with the British paper and board industry regarding the supply of waste paper and if, as a result of these discussions, he will take steps to remove the price and profit controls in order to encourage sales to the home market.

Mr. Meacher

I met representatives of the British Paper and Board Industry Federation on 24th May and am considering as a matter of urgency what action the Government might take to stimulate supplies of waste paper to the home market. I consider that the current difficult supply situation results far more from severely increased world demand than from any special United Kingdom domestic factor.
