asked the Secretary of State for Industry what is the total annual cost of the newly introduced Post Office scheme for farewell gifts to long-service employees.

Mr. Benn

The Post Office informs me that in an ordinary year the annual cost at current prices is not likely to exceed£100,000. Provision for the recently retired will increase this amount in the initial years.
