asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will prepare and publish a report on the likely economic effects of a British withdrawal from the European Community.

Mr Hattersley

As I told the hon. Member for Blackpool South (Mr. Blaker) in reply to an earlier Question today, we are negotiating for success, not failure. A report of the kind suggested by the hon. Member would, therefore, be premature at this stage.
