HC Deb 26 June 1974 vol 875 c455W
57. Mr. Parker

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what progress is being made with research into more economic methods for use in Great Britain of desalination of sea water.

Mr. Denis Howell

The Government are continuing to support the maintenance by the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority of a small research and development capability aimed at discovering more economic methods of desalination. There is still no reason to think that desalination to augment water resources will be economically practicable on any scale in this country for the foreseeable future.
