HC Deb 26 June 1974 vol 875 cc468-9W
Mrs. Chalker

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will take steps to provide a bail hostel in Liverpool; and what provisions have been made during 1973–74 for bail hostels throughout the country.

Dr. Summerskill

Six probation and after-care committees, including Merseyside, have been asked to provide bail hostels as an extension of the experiment begun in London in November 1971. The first of these, in South Yorkshire, will open on 1st July and a second, in Hampshire, later this year. Two voluntary bodies have also offered to provide hostels and the first of these will open soon in London. Suitable premises have been found for the hostel in Liverpool.
